Maple syrup doesn't exactly taste like vanilla, but it's warm and sweet, so it's not a bad swap.

This is my go-to oatmeal. I have a bunch of other recipes saved I keep meaning to try, but this one is so easy when I'm sleepy and don't want to be awake, I just make this instead.

Ingredients | Maple Syrup Substitute For Vanilla Extract

½ cup instant oatmeal

½ cup whole milk

2 tablespoons fresh blueberries, or more to taste

1 tablespoon pure maple syrup

Directions

Combine oatmeal and milk together in a microwave-safe bowl; heat in microwave until warm and thickened, about 30 seconds. Stir blueberries and maple syrup into oatmeal.

Stir extra milk into oatmeal for a thinner consistency. Lower fat milk can be substituted, if desired.

Brown sugar can be substituted for maple syrup.
